About the Position

We are looking for a Sustainability Consultant to join our close-knit Built Environment consulting team and help provide data analysis and insights to our high-impact work. 

In this role, you will support our team through research and quantitative data analysis (e.g. environmental impact assessment, techno-economic analysis, etc.) as well as integrating sustainability measures within companies and across supply chains within the construction sector either independently or as part of a wider consortium. 


As a Junior Sustainability Consultant (Data & Insights) your key responsibilities will include:

  • Research: Conducting and supporting on research to assist with content creation, recommendations and material flow and impact analysis in the built environment
  • Data Analytics: Data collection, processing, analysis, and visualization of results for our consulting projects. This role will be the main focus of the successful applicant.
  • Asset development: Assisting with the development of databases and digital tools for the automation of our analyses
  • Communication: Communicating key analysis and research through accessible insights and recommendations that will drive our clients and partners to action.

The position is a full-time role and is available to start as soon as possible. We operate within a hybrid team, but the position is based in our office in Amsterdam.

Your Profile

  • Fluency in English and Dutch (a must)
  • Educational background in the built environment with strong data analysis skills. 
  • 1-2 years relevant work experience preferred 
  • Basic understanding of production systems and supply chains
  • Foundational knowledge of key sustainability topics and systems thinking
  • Driven by a passion to facilitate the global economy’s transition towards a fundamentally sustainable state
  • Strong research skills
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to convey data insights in a compelling story

Data Analysis Skills

  • Skilled in programming for data analysis (Python), essential requirement
  • Skilled in the visualization of data analysis results (Python, Google Sheets/Excel), essential requirement
  • Knowledge of database management and SQL is a plus 
  • Ability to communicate your data analysis in a compelling manner


Technical Skills

  • Thorough understanding of the materials and processes used in the built environment
  • Experience in other relevant methodologies, such as Material Flow Analysis, techno-economic assessment, supply chain analysis, etc.


  • For non-EU/EEA applicants: The role is dependent upon obtaining a visa to live and work in the Netherlands. Metabolic is a recognized visa sponsor and may support the successful candidate’s application for a work visa.

In our built environment team we work with ambitious, motivated actors from the construction sector and built environment to help them thrive in the regenerative economy. We work at the level of economic organization including influencing financial investment towards positive impact.

We also advise clients on a practical level (for example by designing new buildings and neighbourhoods) and we advise organizations about their organizational impact, CSRD needs and developing sustainable business strategies. Our work includes mapping the impacts of construction activities, designing circular buildings with stakeholders across production value chains, and identifying opportunities to shift linear production systems towards lifetime extension, reuse, repair, and remanufacturing.

We are currently working across different scales on: 

  • Circular and sustainable construction and design
  • Impact analysis of construction projects
  • Organizational footprints, including upstream and downstream impacts
  • Developing Key Performance Indicators for monitoring circularity and sustainability performance
  • Supply chain engagement for implementing circular economy and impact reduction initiatives
