As a sustainability consultant at Metabolic, Simon van Lierde works with both the product and organization teams while helping to bridge the gap between our Software and Consultancy arms. He supports our clients and our team through data analysis and problem-solving — give him a problem, and he will make it disappear.
Born in Brussels and raised in The Hague, Simon says he is as lowland as they come. He earned a bachelor’s in astrophysics before turning to the “green side” for a master’s in industrial ecology. Over the course of his studies, he realized the need for radical change in all aspects of life if we want to sustain and improve human wellbeing. Stumbling upon renewable energy systems made him take his nose out of the books about the cosmos, and recognize the work that is needed to preserve Earth for future generations.
Simon loves to learn new things — from Mesopotamian languages to art history to sorting algorithms. He has a basic understanding of Korean, Japanese, and Chinese, and he participated in a beer brewing committee during his studies. He is passionate about both cooking and eating, and is known for making a mean kimchi fried rice.
