Joey has a background in sustainability science, human geography, and geo-information science. He combines a love for wrangling data with hands-on experience in the transition to a sustainable and just economy.

He founded ecological farm Toca do Coelho in Portugal and a circular and sustainable restaurant at cleantech playground De Ceuvel in Amsterdam. He is also a co-founder of housing cooperative De Warren, which is constructing energy-positive and nature-inclusive housing in Amsterdam

At Metabolic, he combines this hands-on knowledge with data science to help governments and companies understand their impacts and identify intervention points to catalyze the shift towards circular and regenerative governance and business models. To this end, he develops data-driven dashboards and decision tools.
