From an early age, Imme has been passionate about construction and all the related materials, particularly wood. She enjoys repairing and building furniture, and even constructing walls and replacing roofs.
Imme became interested in sustainability during her studies. Over four years, she did a deep dive into complex systems, exploring how stakeholders and flows interact. Studying industrial ecology then allowed her to learn more solution-based and practical lessons. Her master’s thesis looked at a theoretical case study for circular urban area development, focusing on an old industrial area in The Hague, Binckhorst.
In her career, she is constantly trying to build bridges between practice and policy to get them more aligned towards a sustainable and circular built environment. She works on complex projects, such as accelerating timber construction with public-private ecosystems and innovation programs with triple helix collaborations.
